How much shampoo and conditioner should I use?

This depends on your hair length (and is also down to personal preference). For medium-length hair you should need no more than the diameter of a 50 pence piece.

Why doesn't the shampoo lather?

We pride ourselves on being SLS and Sulphate free. This means that our shampoo won't lather in the way most people are used to. We recommend emulsifying our shampoo in your hands prior to adding it to your roots.

Ensure you work through to the back of your head, and if you're looking for more lather, add a dash of water. We recommend shampooing twice to ensure your scalp is fully clean (as is done in the hairdresser).

For extra lather pair with our scalp massager.

The conditioner doesn't feel as smooth as I'm used to, what should I do?

As we don't use silicones in our condioner you won't get that classic 'silky smooth' feeling in the shower. Trust the process and ensure you coat your mid-lengths and ends by using a wide tooth comb.

Without silicones our products nourish hair without coating them in a plasticky substance, so once your hair is dry it should be softer than ever.

Can men use Indie Refill products?

Absolutely! Our products are designed for all genders. Some products, such as our scalp massager are ideal for men, who often suffer more with scalp issues than women.

How much is delivery?

Anything over £5 is completely free!

Here at Indie we believe that standard delivery should be free, always.

If you want your parcel sooner you are able to purchase express delivery at checkout. This will reflect the pricing of Royal Mail at the time.

Can I give Indie Refill as a gift?

We'd love it if you shared the Indie love! Feel free to reach out and discuss your giftee's hair, or if you're not sure what they'd like we also have gift cards.

If your order is a gift make sure you tell us in the order notes as we add a personal message with each order.

Are Indie Refill products vegan?

Yes, all our shampoo & conditioner formulas are suitable for vegans and contain no animal derivatives.

Are Indie Refill products tested on animals?

No. All our formulas and ingredients are cruelty-free and are never tested on animals.

How are Indie Refill products scented?

We use 100% natural fragrances from essential oils.

Are Indie Refill products safe to use when pregnant or breastfeeding?

Yes, all our formulas go through the required saftey testing which understands that products might be used by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

If you have any concerns about products you plan to use while pregnant or breastfeeding, we recommend you consult a doctor.

Can I use Indie Refill products on coloured hair?

Absolutely! Our shampoo and conditioner are ideal for use on coloured hair and are extra gentle, helping to preserve your colour.

Do Indie Refill products expire?

You can find information on expiry on your refill packaging. Our products last 3 years from the date of manufacture and 1 year from the date of opening.

Is Indie Refill safe for all hair types?

Yes, our formulas have been specially created to bring out the best in all hair types

Do Indie Refill products contain SLS, sulphates, silicones or parabens?

Absolutely not. Indie's refillable formulas are, and always will be free from SLS, sulphates and parabens. We use natural alternatives to keep your hair and the planet healthy.

Where are Indie Refill products made?

All our formulas are made in Liverpool (UK)

Do Indie Refill products contain any palm oil?

None of our products contain any palm oil.

Bottles & refills

Why do my bottles arrive empty?

Our bottles arrive empty to prevent waste. To prevent waste we run small orders, which at present cannot be filled across two packaging types. Therefore all our shampoo and conditioner is packaged into refill pouches to prevent waste.

Can I re-use my bottles?

100%. That's what they're made for. We recommend rinsing your bottle and pump before refilling.

Can I choose to buy the bottles without the pump?

Yes, please let us know in the order notes if you don't want to receive any pumps with your order?

Can I purchase a pump on its own?

Yes. If you need a new pump please send an email to hello@indierefill.com

Why is your pump made of plastic?

At the moment a plastic pump is the only option to ensure our pumps are multi-use at the best price and least energy to be made. We are always exploring alternative options.

How do I refill my bottle?

Simply remove the aluminium lid or plastic pump on your bottle for life and pour the contents of the pouch into the bottle. Our pouch and bottle are both 500ml so the contents should fit perfectly!

Can I subscribe to refills?

You will be able to subscribe and save in the coming weeks

How do I recycle my pouches?

Please cut the spout off your pouch and pop this into the recycling bin. After rinsing your pouch out you can send it back to us in our free return envelope. If you need one of these please send an email to hello@indierefill.com

What are the pouches made of?

The outer layer of our pouches is made from aluminium foil. There is a very thin layer of plastic membrane which is needed to ensure the safety of our formulas. The spout is made from PET (the most widely recycled plastic)

What are the bottles made of?

Our bottles are made of recycled aluminium. We chose aluminium as it's endlessly recyclable and long lasting
